ABSTRACT

The Nutrition Care Process (NCP) serves as a guideline to provide nutrition care. Dietetics students learnt about NCP as a prerequisite for entry level dietitian. This study was conducted to determine the association between socio-demographic factors, education/training about NCP, knowledge, and attitudes on NCP with practices of NCP among final year dietetics students in Malaysia. A total of 209 final year dietetics students from seven universities in Malaysia were invited to participate in this study through online survey link. A total of 68 students completed the survey. Modes of NCP learning reported were mainly from case studies and discussion (97.1%) and training during internship (92.7%) compared to lectures (60.3%), course/subject (57.4%), and workshop/seminar/talk (11.8%). Significant association were found between the learning NCP from a special course with the attitude towards NCP (x2=4.49, p<0.05). There was a significant correlation between attitude and practice of NCP (r=0.58, p<0.001) which reflects positive attitude leads to better practice of NCP among the dietetics students. Thus, it is crucial for the dietetics educators to equip the students with a comprehensive learning experience on NCP as part of the curriculum to prepare them for future practice.
